It is the vision of the European Commission energy transitation in the Groningen region is an example for other cities in Europe. Therefore the EC recognizes the Groningen region as a frontrunner in energy transition.

Groningen is also the choice of location for the Global Centre on Adaptation. In October 2018 this centre has been opened by former secretary general of the United Nations Mr. Ban Ki-Moon. The Climate Centre supports the new Global Commission on Adaptation which will raise visibility of the need to adapt to climate change and focus on identifying solutions.
